Root Canals

Root Canals are procedures designed to save teeth with large cavities or very large restorations.  Under pain free local anesthetic, the necrotic or affected inner components of the tooth are removed in order to salvage the remaining root and tooth structure.

If a tooth has been severely damaged due to injury, accident, or decay, it may need to be extracted. While some teeth that are damaged or decayed may be effectively treated with a filling, teeth that are too damaged to be repaired must be removed.

Why Choose Our Office ?

With these misconceptions discussed I want to express here that I encourage my patient’s to discuss their financial obligations and concerns at any point in our relationship. We both need to know where we stand financially because of the tremendous variability of dental plan structures and methods of payment as well as unexpected costs that may occur during or after treatment. Financial transparency is but one facet of transparency, there is treatment transparency, which is a very important component of treatment success. I have said previously that I try to explain my suggested treatment as clearly as possible. There are several reasons for this discussion.

Explanation vs. Excuse:
When a treatment plan has been
discussed before commencement, it is regarded as an
explanation, but when an explanation is given after a
treatment is begun and there is a problem, then it is
considered an excuse. Since I am trying to establish trust
with my patients, I have learned that the more my
patient’s understand concerning their proposed
treatment, the more successful the treatment is.
Clear objective of treatment:
One needs to know where
one’s going to know if you got there. Just stating a
treatment plan as a list of procedures does not mean very
much to a someone other than it a list. It is the “why” that
is important. By discussing the whys of a treatment
regime, I have found that my patients can more easily
assess its success or failure as well as accept the reasons
for specialists’s referral if required.
Cost allocation:
How much does it cost? Everyone wants a guarantee or cost certainty with regards to treatment proposals. Unfortunately, human beings are not machines, but biological systems which are prone to breakdown. Treatment proposals are described in a list format which itemize the proposed treatment and the their associated costs. This itemization of procedures gives the impression to patients that dental procedures are commodities as demonstrated by questions like “ How much is a filling, a crown a cleaning, etc.?”. Actually, these itemized procedures represent a means by which a dentist can allocate his overhead cost, his expertise, knowledge, responsibility and time for the proposed treatment. Regardless, all major proposed treatments are outlined and discussed before treatment is commenced.
Estimate vs. guarantee:
Treatment plans are estimates not guarantees. The basic reason for this is that during treatment, situations can change; a tooth can break, require removal, need a root canal procedure or financial concerns my mitigate changes to the treatment plan. As I said earlier, human beings are not machines, but biological systems. Dentists don’t cure a problem; we create the environment in which your body can heal itself and function normally. Remember that a tooth is the only part of the human body which can not repair itself; it requires human intervention to restore it to functional normality. Hence, dental treatment cannot be guaranteed because success is determined by healing and it may require several different treatments to resolve the issue at hand.
Establish a means of communication:
Success in dentistry is not just a mechanical function of performing dental procedures to a hypothetical standard; it is much more. Success comes with the blending of technical skill, clinical experience with the patient’s desired result. If either party doesn’t understand the other then all of the technical skill or years of experience is of little value because the treatment will be a failure. Put another way, we both have to be on the same page before and during treatment otherwise there will be confusion and dissension. Consequently, I strive throughout all of my treatments to continually reiterate what treatments I will be performing and why, so as to mitigate anxiety and keep us both on the same page. Additionally, I encourage discussion to clarify any questions or concerns that may arise during treatment or for any other reasons
